LumiRead

A privacy-first offline picture-book companion

Local OCR correction, Socratic questions, and multi-turn interaction bring an understandable reading companion to children in unreliable or unavailable network conditions.

Context and real need

Many AI reading tools require a continuous connection and assume one explanation level fits every child. LumiRead focuses on remote and offline contexts and keeps core capabilities on the device to protect privacy.

Design judgment

Kid and Parent modes support three age groups, bilingual output, and an offline dictionary. OCR results are corrected locally before entering the dialogue and reading flow.

My role and validation

I worked on project design, prompt engineering, and testing. The project reached the semifinal presentation of the Google Gemma Developer Hackathon 2026 and produced an Android prototype that can be demonstrated offline.
